SUPERSTRUCTURES Engineers + Architects
New York City's most prominent firm dedicated to the restoration and renewal of
facades, curtain walls, roofs, plazas, parking structures, and infrastructure

We work on more exterior restoration projects than any other firm in New York City

Since our founding in 1981, we’ve successfully completed thousands of restoration projects for the region’s most prestigious and demanding clients, including some of the most prominent and historically significant structures in the city.

In the interest of public safety, the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) has established three laws related to the inspection of facades, parking structures, and retaining walls within the five boroughs:

Local Law 126 of 2021 (Parking Structures)
This law mandates periodic assessment of all parking structures every six years to ensure they’re maintained in a safe condition. Learn more at NYCLocalLaw126.com

Local Law 11 of 1998 (Facades)
Also known as the Facade Inspection & Safety Program (FISP), this law addresses the condition of exterior walls of buildings taller than six stories. Learn more at LocalLaw11.com

Local Law 37 of 2008 (Retaining Walls)
Similar to FISP, retaining walls must be inspected and required maintenance performed every five years.

Winter of Our Discontent
New York has been in the grip of a sub-freezing cold spell that works against the city’s Get Sheds Down initiative. That’s because winter weather contributes to a facade-damaging phenomenon known as “frost jacking.” But continuous cold spells aren’t solely responsible for this phenomenon. Frost jacking is driven by ongoing cycles of freezing and thawing.

Fix, Then File
As part of NYC’s Get Sheds Down initiative (commencing Monday, January 26) the city’s Department of Buildings (DOB) will implement changes that directly impact how sidewalk shed permits are issued, renewed, and tracked. Conveniently, SUPERSTRUCTURES’ mission has always been to get sidewalk sheds down as soon as possible. That’s why we advocate “Fix, Then File.”

Frost Jacking Day Tracker - 2025-2026 Season
SUPERSTRUCTURES is excited to continue this ninth season of the Frost Jacking Day Tracker. "Frost jacking" is what happens when freezing temperatures cause rain or snow to turn to ice and expand cracks in a facade. As cycles of freezing and thawing accumulate, the cracks continue to grow and exterior hazardous conditions or interior water damage or leaks can occur.
