Carlyle Court is a three-building residential complex on Union Square West. NYU retained SUPERSTRUCTURES to investigate and design a new roofing system for the building’s roof and terraces to bring insulation up to code and remediate water infiltration issues around doors and parapets. Our solution utilized vacuum insulation panels (VIP’s) on the terraces to achieve a high R-value within a minimal profile that accommodated existing door thresholds and low through-wall air conditioning units. The project also involved removal and replacement of brick masonry to install roof counter flashing and replacement of roof drains. The project was completed on an expedited basis to minimize its impact on University operations.
