Columbia University, International Affairs Building
New York, NY

Designed by Harrison & Abramovitz and built in 1970, Columbia University’s International Affairs Building houses the School of International and Public Affairs and other University functions. SUPERSTRUCTURES was retained to restore the Ancel Plaza in front of the building. Probes were deployed to expose the existing waterproofing, deck slope, flashing heights and configurations, and any moisture which may have been present below the existing waterproofing. Restoration work included: removal and replacement of existing plaza pavers, waterproofing, flashings, and insulation with an insulated, lightweight concrete system; replacement of existing plaza drains in kind on existing roughing; removal and re-setting of existing perimeter coping stones; replacement of guard rails; and removal and replacement of brick masonry at in-wall flashing.
