Studebaker Hall, Columbia University
New York, NY

Originally the Studebaker automotive finishing plant (1923), Columbia’s facility at 615 West 131st Street now houses the university’s finance department and computer center. SUPERSTRUCTURES provided investigation and design services to restore the building’s facade and roof. The project includes: removal and replacement of the existing roof membrane and flashings; replacement of existing roof drains in kind; removal and replacement of cracked masonry units; masonry re-pointing; installation of guardrails; and structural work on the towers. Work also includes removal and replacement of existing steel lintels, repair of spalled concrete and deteriorated reinforcement of exterior spandrel beams and infill panels, and replacement of existing bulkhead windows. Parapet restoration will include extensive terra cotta replacement and restoration of the Studebaker emblem.
