Miracle on 34^th Street (George Seaton, 1947) is a holiday classic about a Macy’s Santa who just might be the real thing. SUPERSTRUCTURES’ restoration of various 34^th Street buildings may not be miraculous, but there’s no doubt about the authenticity of the work.

Over the years, we’ve contributed to the preservation of one of New York’s most iconic skyscrapers: The Empire State Building (20 W 34^th St.). In 1982, one of our founding principals, Paul Millman, PE, RA, performed the first Local Law 10 (Cycle 1) facade inspection on the building.

Subsequently, the firm conducted a restoration to remediate water infiltration issues. The original drainage system above the building’s storefronts was sealed in the 1970s, leading to water-related damage. Our project involved the custom manufacture and installation of a new stainless steel drain system at the storefront setback.

Our restoration of the nearby Lefcourt Madison Building (Buchman & Kahn, 1925) comprised the repair of cracked and spalled brick masonry, terra cotta, and limestone, and restoration of the penthouse and roof bulkheads.

The New Yorker Hotel (Sugarman & Berger, 1929) is an Art Deco landmark at the corner of West 34^th Street and 8^th Avenue. The building boasts famous guests such as Fidel Castro, JFK, Muhammad Ali, and Nikola Tesla, who lived there in his final years. SUPERSTRUCTURES has completed various projects for the building, most recently a facade restoration related to FISP Cycle 9.

Farther down West 34^th Street, we conducted a restoration of the Webster Apartments, opened in 1923 as a women-only residential building. Original construction was funded by Charles Webster, cousin to Roland Macy and a majority shareholder in Macy’s Department Store. Our restoration addressed parapet distress, corroded and deformed steel lintels, cracked and spalled brick masonry, deteriorated terra cotta and precast concrete copings, and deteriorated roof elements.
