The Staten Island Court Complex occupies the former site of the St. George Quarantine Hospital. The overall design by Ennead features four equal “towers of justice”, representing equality under the law. The building will achieve LEED Silver certification with its green roofs and a high-efficiency building envelope. SUPERSTRUCTURES was retained to provide Special Inspections for the exterior cladding. The firm’s responsibilities included structurally and field glazed curtain walls and copper panel systems. The firm monitored laboratory mock-up testing, served as owner’s agent for on-site special and quality assurance inspections, field air and water infiltration testing, and structural testing of curtain wall anchors. Subsequent restoration included: removal and replacement of the existing roof membrane, and flashings; in-kind replacement of existing roof drains on existing roughing; repair and/or replacement of portions of the waterproofing in exterior walls; and sealant replacement.
