James B. Duke House, New York University
New York

The James B. Duke House, one of the few great extant mansions from “Millionaire’s Row,” and now the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, is on the National Register of Historic Places. Construction was completed in 1912. Robert Venturi renovated the building for academic use in 1958. SUPERSTRUCTURES was retained to design an emergency repair involving complete restoration of the cornice and parapet, including sealant joints, pointing of cracked mortar joints, and pinning and reinforcing the bracket. SUPERSTRUCTURES provided investigation, contract documents, and construction administration services.
