Haaren Hall Roof, John Jay College
New York, NY

Haaren Hall was built in 1903 and doubled in size with a 1987 addition. After nearly 20 years, the one-acre roof exhibits deteriorated wearing surfaces, flashing, leaks, clogged roof drains, and waterlogged insulation. Most of the roof is an Inverted Roof Membrane Assembly (IRMA) system. About two thirds are ballasted and one third has a wearing surface for a tennis court, running track, and playground. Further complicating the project is the presence of large roof-top mechanical units, skylights and standing seam sections of roof. SUPERSTRUCTURES was retained to provide investigation, design, and construction administration services to replace the entire roof.
