Apollo Theater
New York, NY

The Apollo Theater in Harlem, one of the oldest and most famous music halls in the United States, was built in 1913-14 and designed by architect George Keister. The theater is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been a designated New York City Landmark since 1983. As part of a construction project on the adjacent lot, SUPERSTRUCTURES developed a Construction Protection Plan and a Vibration and Crack Monitoring Program for the theater. The program included installation of a seismograph, geophones and crack monitors prior to construction, and monitoring during the scheduled four to five months of excavation and pile driving to ensure that vibration levels stay below required thresholds and crack growth is not observed.
