SUPERSTRUCTURES provided investigation, design, and construction administration services to restore the facade and roof of the Ralph R. McKee Career & Technical Education High School. A mass of limestone fell from the school’s parapet and landed in front of the main entrance, initiating an investigation.
The exterior was found to be in poor condition, with severely deteriorated steel lintels, cracked and spalled limestone trim, cracked, spalled, and displaced corners and quoins, and eroded marble panels. Water infiltration was causing deterioration of the terrace over basement spaces.
Restoration work to remediate these conditions included: replacement of existing roof systems; replacement of masonry parapets and stone cornice; replacement of steel lintels; replacement and repointing of various masonry elements; and replacement of terrace and vault waterproofing.
