Brooklyn Academy of Music, Peter J. Sharp Building
Constructed in 1907-1908 and renamed the Peter Jay Sharp building in 2005, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Opera House was designed in the Italian Renaissance Revival style by the firm of Herts & Tallant. A prominent component of the Brooklyn Academy of Music Historic District, the six-story structure includes a main theater and three additional theaters, as well as offices and support spaces. SUPERSTRUCTURES prepared a Conditions Report to provide a comprehensive overview of defects and problems reported in the building’s brick, stone, and terra cotta facade and flat roofs. It details recommendations for remediation of these issues, categorized in three levels of priority. The first phase of restoration work is under way.
