Technically Speaking: SurfaceCapture with Giga-pixel Technology

They say a picture’s worth a thousand words. That’s certainly true of the “giga-pixel” imagery of our proprietary SurfaceCaptureSM application.

SurfaceCaptureSM giga-pixel technology comprises a composite of hundreds of digital photos of a facade “stitched” together into a single, ultra-high-resolution image. These composites can have a resolution of over 12,000 pixels per inch, allowing inspection of facade details down to a quarter of an inch.

This technology allows our inspection specialists to zoom in on the fine detail of a facade’s condition to identify deficiencies that wouldn’t be evident through street-level observation or a conventional photographic survey. In addition to making inspections easier, having a high-resolution image of each facade ensures we retain a comprehensive record of the state of the building at the time of capture.

SurfaceCaptureSM is a tool that SUPERSTRUCTURES’ inspectors use to produce higher quality inspections and reports to benefit our clients. Think of it as a high-tech upgrade to a pair of binoculars and a pen and paper. It’s not an automated replacement for human analysis, but an important part of our facade assessment tool kit and a prime example of how we apply technology to our practice.
