      Letter Perfect

The SCA, NYCHA, DCAS, DDC, HHC, PANY&NJ, OGS, DASNY, and US GSA—SUPERSTRUCTURES has active projects for nearly all of these agencies. So our client list is replete with acronyms, right? Actually, some of these are initialisms.

What’s the difference? Strings of letters of that can be pronounced as a word (versus pronouncing each letter) qualify as acronyms. For example, LASER is a familiar word, but actually stands for the term “light amplification by the stimulated emission of radiation.” SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) is an initialism. So our acronym clients are NYCHA, DCAS, and DASNY, while the others are initialisms.

Whether known by their acronyms or initialisms, these agencies have multiple facilities, millions of square feet, and billions of dollars of value under their watch. They’re also “professional clients” with architects and engineers on their selection committees. For decades, they’ve trusted us for professional architecture and engineering services to restore and renew their assets—not just for a single project, but again and again in ongoing relationships.

To assure public safety and preserve asset value, their facades and roofs must be maintained safe and water tight. These agencies retain us to investigate problems, develop solutions, prepare construction documents, and administer construction.

Whereas construction contracts are generally awarded to the lowest bidder, assignments of professional services are based on qualifications, not cost. FYI (an initialism), the value we offer is a well-executed project that’s completed on time, on budget, and for a fair fee.
