Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center

New York, NY

Originally constructed in 1898 to serve New York City as a public school, this 5-story Collegiate Gothic building was designed by C.B.J Snyder, the then Superintendent of School Buildings, and currently serves as a community arts center. The building’s facade is characterized by its steeply pitched roof line punctuated by dormers and decorative features. The restoration program consisted of the removal and restoration of damaged masonry units, spandrel beam repair and dormer reconstruction. The project also entailed flashing installation and lintel replacement. SUPERSTRUCTURES provided comprehensive investigation, design and construction administration services. Client: New York City Department of Design and Construction.
